ABOUT DAVID BOWMAN

Clear thinking. Practical structure. Work carried through.

I am David Bowman, founder of DBasc and co-founder of Zebsoft. I work with management teams to understand operational problems, construct workable processes and establish how delivery will be assured.

My interest is in how a business actually works: the decisions people make, the information they rely on and the points where responsibility becomes unclear. From that understanding, we can build arrangements that people can use and management can trust.

THE QUESTION BEHIND THE WORK

What needs to happen, can your people deliver it, and how will you know?

That question connects management intent with operational reality. It is also the foundation of my Define, Communicate, Assure approach.

COMMERCIAL AND MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

Understanding the pressures behind the process.

My background includes business ownership and management across commercial vehicle parts distribution, financial services and software. These experiences shape how I approach consultancy: decisions have consequences for customers, people, capacity and cash flow.

A process must make sense within those constraints. It needs clear ownership, sensible handovers and enough structure to remain dependable when the organisation is busy or circumstances change.

INVESTIGATION AND ASSURANCE

Ask the questions that reveal what needs to change.

My lead auditor background across seven ISO standards supports a disciplined approach to evidence. I examine how requirements are interpreted, how work is controlled and whether the records support what management believes is happening.

I use that questioning to help people understand the problem and develop a practical response. The value is in connecting a finding to a decision, an accountable owner and an outcome that can be checked.

DAVID BOWMAN ASSOCIATES

The principles behind DBasc.

DBasc takes its name from David Bowman Associates. Agility, Structure and Completion describe the qualities I aim to bring to each assignment.

Agility

Make sense of complexity and adapt the approach to the situation. Identify what matters, remove unnecessary steps and help management respond as circumstances change.

Structure

Create clarity around requirements, responsibilities and decisions. Give people a practical framework for doing the work and understanding how their contribution connects with others.

Completion

Carry agreed work through to a clear conclusion. Address obstacles, establish evidence of delivery and leave ownership in place so improvements can be maintained.

THE DCA PHILOSOPHY

Define. Communicate. Assure.

DCA brings together three questions that I return to throughout my work. Have we defined what is required and checked that it is achievable? Have we communicated it so the people involved understand? Do we have evidence that it is being delivered?

Define includes a deliberate check on resources. A requirement needs to be achievable with the people, time, skills and tools available, or management needs to address the gap.

The approach can be applied to a single task, a process or a wider management system. It gives the discussion a consistent structure while allowing the detail to reflect the organisation.

Define, Communicate, Assure: David Bowman's DCA approach to management and operational assurance

WORKING WITH ME

Expect questions, clear explanations and practical decisions.

Understand before prescribing

I start by listening to the people involved, examining the available evidence and following how the work moves through the organisation. That helps distinguish the underlying problem from its visible symptoms.

Make the reasoning clear

People need to understand why a change is proposed and what it means for their work. I explain the findings, test the options with those responsible and make the implications for delivery explicit.

Agree what completion means

We establish the scope, deliverables and responsibilities for the assignment. Progress is reviewed against those commitments, including the evidence needed to judge whether the agreed changes are working.

FROM MANAGEMENT THINKING TO DAILY CONTROL

How DBasc and Zebsoft connect.

DBasc provides the consultancy: understanding the problem, developing the structure and supporting management decisions. DCA provides the philosophy that connects requirements, understanding and evidence.

As co-founder of Zebsoft, I also work on the technology that can help organisations maintain those arrangements. A shared platform can support the visibility and consistency needed as processes become more complex.

Start with what your organisation needs.

The consultancy begins with your operational requirements and the tools already in place. Where Zebsoft is a suitable option, we can consider its role against those requirements and agree any implementation work separately.

You can engage DBasc for a defined assignment or ongoing support without purchasing a software platform.

WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER

Choose a starting point for the conversation.

Operational review

Understand where processes, responsibilities and controls are breaking down, and establish clear priorities for improvement.

Business process improvement

Simplify workflows, clarify ownership and improve the handovers that connect people and departments.

Management systems consultancy

Connect processes, responsibilities and evidence in a system that your organisation can use and maintain.

Retained management assurance

Establish regular review, constructive challenge and follow-through to keep management decisions connected to delivery.

SPEAK DIRECTLY WITH DAVID

Tell me what needs to work better.

You may have a specific problem, a planned change or a wider concern about how the organisation is operating. We can start there and establish whether my approach is a good fit for the work.
